Will a 2X4 wire dog pen keep in red golden pheasants. I hatched my 1st pheasants last summer and they have been in pens in my barn but I want to move them outside and I have a 5' X 10' heavy duty dog pen and that would be easy. I could always cover it with chicken wire if need be. If I have to cover it in chicken wire, would I have to put it all the way to the top? Yes, I know the top would need to be covered with flight netting.

Goldens and amherst will walk right threw 2x4 wire. You will need to use smaller wire. Not to mention that any predator can reach threw 2x4 wire and grab them.
In N.H.,Tony.

I will wrap the bottom 3' in chicken wire then untill I can build a better pen. It is tough to find the time with 3 kids and a wife keeping you busy all the time! The males are starting to get their colors and I can't wait to see them next spring. They are all eating the purina gamebird layena and seem to be doing pretty well(20%).

You might find three foot to not be enough. They are great jumpers and climbers. Not sure if anyone else has noticed this as well, but I am certin they have. I would place a solid barrer treated wood or sheet metal up to three foot then place the one inch poultry fence the rest of the way to the top. To help keep predators out. A raccoon will tear right through chicken wire.

Just a example
