2y Bantam without balance...day 6 of treatment....very little change

FYI: I took Luther to a vet.....who seemed very knowledgable regarding chickens. (Exotic & Avian vet) He couldn't figure out what what wrong with my Luther, and he spent a good 30-40 minutes with us. Definitely said it wasn't a broken leg...or limb. Thinks it's realted to his nervous system. If you watch him, it's his balance he is having issues with. Vet thinks he's too old for Mareks Dz. SOOOOOOO, he decided to give antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and an anti-fungal. Says whatever it is, if it can be killed, one of these will do the job.

Now, mind you, I have >35 chickens....none of the others are showing any of Luther's signs.....not even the hen we put with him in isolation (so he wouldn't get lonely)....which leads to me believe it's not bacterial or viral. The vet did suggest lead poisoning....but usually the chicken won't eat, and Luther is still eating.

It's very sad because he is one of my all time favs.....He seems to be improving a little.......but very slowly....he's not as lethargic as he was.

Please everybody! Check out my video and see if you have ever seen anything like this......and if so......PLEASE SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW!!!!

thanks to all!

Could he have gotten bitten by something (toxic) when you weren't there?

Poor thing. Please keep us posted. He certainly can't get better care than what you're giving him right now.

I do let them roam in the yard...........To my knowledge, there is nothing dangerous...but who knows.....Luther and the other roo, Tiger, stay really close to the pen with their hens. They don't really roam around like my big chickens do.

I just went and gave him his meds....so so so so sad...

BTW....We got him and Tiger from TRACTOR SUPPLY and FYI: they DO NOT VACCINATE THEIR CHICKS BEFORE SELLING TO PUBLIC....and with Meraks, you have to vaccinate like within the first 6hrs post birth.

For anybody that cares, my roo is still unable to balance himself. He continues to eat and drink very well when I am holding him and the bowl with H2O/feed. He seems to have improved just a tad, but he should have improved drastically after 6 days of treatment.

I just don't know what to do.......none of my other 50+ chickens got sick....

I'm not a disease expert, but that looks way more like an injury to me than a nurological problem. My hen that is wobbly seems more like she is drunk and stumbling forward and backward. Your guy seems more like he's trying really hard not to put any pressure on that one leg.

@NC29mom what ever happened to your little man? I have a hen that is in the same boat ... vet had no idea ... I just want to know her fate. She is also my favorite:/
