Ok so i have a bantam chick who my son out of curiosity tried pulling a dried peice of yolk off of its belly and pulled it out?! ( my son is 3 and doesn't know better yet) this chick was born with a small tiny portion not all the way absorbed yet and it was dried when he did this. Could the chick die from it? What do i need to do? The chick already ruptured it somewhat.

I hate to be a bearer of bad new but yes, the chick may die. I would isolate the chick if it has siblings. You do not want that sack pulled on more. He/ she may very well jerk out intestines. Also... is that the wrong pic...?

Yes it was my phone wigs out on me. It won't load the actual pic. But the chick has jerked the whole Yolk sac out and is running around fine? No intestines are out just a gaping hole?!

I have had chicks freshly hatched with this, and in that case its a matter of hoping it absorbs the sack... but with a 3 day old chick. I am not sure. I am very worried though about what I mentioned before. A very active chick with one good jerk... I had to euthanize a chick that had pulled out intestines not long ago. Maybe you could try tying and cutting?

The sac is removed and the chick is acting normal eating and all. He is by himself to limit access to extra bacteria. I put bactraban on it to help keep bacteria out. Hopefully this little guy makes it.
