Thank you! I was looking at Jeffers pets last night but became extremely confused! And then it kept saying not for laying hens, but they will be one day...so I went to bed. I appreciate the info and ordered it! Thank you!!

I read/watched the information on tube feeding...still a bit anxious! The places listed are about an hour away without traffic so during the business part of the day about 1.5 hours or so. I may still go. Thank you!!!!

So it doesn't specifically say it helps with enteritis...so the only one I saw on chicken enteritis is the following one that says broilers only...should I give them both or just go for the di-methox.
Di-Methox

Soluble Powder

AgriLabs

Sulfadimethoxine
For treating foot rot, bacterial pneumonia, calf diphtheria, and shipping fever in beef cattle, dairy calves, and heifers. Also for coccidiosis and fowl cholera in meat producing turkeys and in broiler and replacement chickens for treatment of coccidiosis, fowl cholera and infectious coryza.
Dissolve 1 pkt in 50 gal for chickens or 100 gal for turkeys.
Make a cattle stock solution by adding 1 packet of Di-Methox Soluble Powder to 1 gallon of water. One pkt will treat six 600 lb cattle.

Soluble Powder
Lincomycin Soluble Powder

Bimeda

For treating swine dysentery and to control necrotic enteritis in broiler chickens.
Dosage:
Swine:
give 250 mg per gal of drinking water for 5 consecutive days beyond the disappearance of symptoms up to a max. of 10 days. 1 pkt medicates 64 gal of drinking water, providing 250 mg per gal.
Broiler chickens: give 64 mg per gal of drinking water for 7 consecutive days, starting as soon as diagnosis is determined.
6-day slaughter withdrawal for swine, no withdrawal for broiler chickens.
Not for use in layer and breeder chickens.

A lot of chicken meds have warnings because they are not really for chickens, or if they are, the world is full of disclaimers. Most people use the meds they need and toss the eggs for 30 days.

Di-Meth, Sulfadimethoxine treats coccidiosis just like Corid. But if the enteritis is caused by cocci, Di-meth will treat that. Also, since it's a sulfa drug, it has some antibacterial qualities as well. Enteritis can be caused by cocci or bacteria. Without blood tests, using recommended meds here are an educated guess, and hopefully the antibiotic or med will treat the illness.

Lincomycin is a great antibiotic, but does not kill coccidiosis., but would work on a bacterial enteritis.

I would also try to get the chicks to eat a wet mash. Sometimes the crumbles are hard to eat. My chicks usually look at mush like the best treat of the year!

If 8 day old chicks are sick, the most common ailment at that age would be coccidiosis, which there are 6-9 types of. I believe that sulfadimethoxine may cover more of them than Corrid, although they both work on the 2 most common cocci.

This is where seeing a vet can be useful. The vet can take a look at the poop under a scope and see if there is a bacterial infection and sometimes they can see cocidiosis, too. The test they do with the poop will allow them to prescribe an antibiotic most appropriate for a gram positive or gram negative bacteria.

Lincomycin i think is used to treat mostly gram positive bacterial infections, whereas a sulfa drug will treat both. Don't quote me on this, do your research.

Sometimes when they open their mouths constantly it means something is stuck in their throat or crop, what are you using for bedding in the brooders?
