3 DAYS UNTIL ACTION STARTS - I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS : )

Hey Guys

My chicken eggs start action in 3 Days

i can't wait... but since i don't have a brooder and i want to keep my bator clean from blood can i put a small tray in the bator and put the eggs on that an let them hatch on that?

an to make sure my eggs are on day 15 i take them off the turner on day 18 right?

reason i say action in 3 days cuz sometimes eggs will start to pip on day 18 i've heard

Use the puffy, shelf liner stuff. Then when that hatch is over, either wash and disinfect it or just toss it.

By the way you dont BROOD in the bator. you INCUBATE, and in may cases, HATCH, in it.
You can use a separate hatcher - just another incubator, really.

but the brooder is something else altogether.

Make sure you have a brooder available that they can live in for at least the first 6 weeks before the can go to the coop.

Yes, you'll need a brooder! A brooder is nothing more than a cardboard box with a light bulb (i use a 250 watt heat lamp bulb) in it. After the hatch is complete, thats where your chicks go.

But thanks for the advice with the liner i'll sure use that

Well there shouldnt be any blood, but new chick poops, shell, and little brown slimey chunks. Even if you use a liner, you will still need to clean out the incubator after hatching!

Well i also just hatched out 3 chicks and a duck in an egg carton and the mess was minimal compared to just the shelf liner. i was actually surprised - pleasantly.
i think i'm going to get an old deviled egg (tupperware) container and put that in the incubator and hatch in that. I think it would easily clean up afterwards too.

I lay cheesecloth in the bottom of the incubator and hatch on that. When the hatch is done I gather it all up and pitch it in the garbage along with all the bits of egg shell and such. Of course the incubator still needs to be cleaned but it does help.
