3" Drain pipe chicken feeder. Cheaper then PVC:)

Dang!!! Great point:) Thank you for that!! Lucky I still have about 5' left. I will just have to make one more with smaller holes for my chicks. Once the chickens get big I can change it to the one with the bigger hole. After that I can just change it out every 3 or 4 years when I get new birds.
1" holes work for your chicks? Got any photo's so I can see?
I had a YouTube video of how to make one but I deleted it when I found out that this doesn't work so well. I am going to put another one together tomorrow or the next day and if I remember Ill get you some pictures of it. I used the circular drill bit (I think it is made for drilling holes in studs for electrical stuff!!), the picture looks like it is bigger than 1" but its just the angle of the picture. Even 1" is a little big for the tiny pullets, older that 2 weeks or so it should be fine.

Very cool! There should be a hole size that will work for both the pullets and the grown chickens. With the holes it keeps them from moving to much feed around, keeps there mess out, and keeps out water, dust etc etc:)

You have to do a video now!!! LOL:)

What is your Youtube channel so I can sub:)

Hey I'm sorry I didn't update you - we went to the hardware store last weekend and they were all sold out of the 3" pipe! They did have 4" but it just looked too big. I know where it is now so I'll check again tomorrow. When I've got this thing put together I will put up some pictures :)

Sweet!! I am looking forward to it:) 4" would have been to big to me as well. Did you end up getting the drain pipe or PVC?

I would suggest to use 6 inch for the holding tank and reduce it down to 4 in or 3 inch for the feeder. It would cost more but it would hold more.

I have 3 chickens so the 6" would be overkill for me. It's a great idea for people that have lots of chickens:)

I made some of these using 2 1/2" PVC schedule 40 since nobody seems to carry thinwall PVC much. Anyway, the chickens LOVE the feeders, but they don't seem to feed well ie., the feed doesn't seem to flow easily down into the trough area. Any ideas?? I have Seramas so the 2 1/2" should be fine, but do I need to go bigger just to ensure the feed will flow easily?

3" seems to work best for most feed sizes I've seen. I think I heard someone say anything smaller gave them problems here and there:(

So, I would say yes:)

Thanks. I am using crumbles............but will try it with 3". Really defeats the purpose if I have to go in and pull the feed down with my finger.
