Welcome! with a cockerel that young 3 to 1 is not a good ratio, as cockerels are hard on the hens... it sounds to be like you should find yourself a mature speckled Sussex roo!

If this is your first foray into chickens, just go with the all hens. I think roosters need a little experience. And can be darn hard to get rid of.

I think you guys are right! Plus I am a 4-H agent and will be doing embryology in 10 second grade classrooms which means 120 chicks need homes, maybe I will keep a few of those!

I think you are making the right decision. Go with your 3 for now. You can always add more down the road. Trust me, NOT adding more is the hard part.
