3 month Marans, hen or rooster?

Hello,
I am taking a 3month old chick from a friend of mine, only it is illegal to have roosters where I live. She sent me this picture and I am wary of the large comb, but I was told Marans have larger combs than other breeds?
I can ask her for more pictures if this one isn't good enough. Thanks for your input!

That's a cockerel. I don't think Marans have especially larger combs earlier than other breeds, and hens of any breed don't get that much color until they're ready to lay....more like 5-6 months old. Pass on this guy.
