Not necessarily TS's fault......most hatcheries only give a 90% guarantee on sexed chicks.
This time may well have been the fault of the employees at the store:
Accidents happen, but I should of known of the risks after running back into the store for a forgotten item, to witness the employee dumping the straight runs into the pullet tub.
If they did that once, it probably wasn't the first time.
For this particular cockerel--my advice is to eat him, or give him to someone who will. You've already said rehoming is probably not possible.
People in the area are desperately trying to give away roosters. Rehoming him probably won't be possible. I don't want to cull him because of my own inadequacy and his luck to be born male and our local tractor supply's just tossing breeds and genders together all mixed matched.
You do know he had a good life until now, so give him a quick/painless death and have a tasty meal. And it's not just because he's a male--plenty of females get eaten too. It's because he's a chicken that doesn't fit well in your flock, and because people like to eat chickens.
