3 Week Black Australorp

Hi everyone, I am trying to figure out if we have a rooster. We have a Black Australorp that will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. The comb seems to be growing faster than our Blue Australorp, and it looks like there are some wattles coming in. We've never had this breed so I am not sure if this is how they grow, or she is heading toward becoming a he. Any thoughts and expertise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

Any update? My blue astrolorp looks like this at 3 weeks with wattle development but no redness to the comb. I am praying mine is a hen as I can’t have a rooster

See the two threads below for updates. For the second link, my posts are on pages 9 and 10. I've been posting new pictures and info there. In short, her/his comb has grown and wattles have grown from week 3 to week 4. The comb turned slightly pink. But he/she will be 6 weeks on Wednesday and since the initial growth during weeks 3 and 4 things have slowed. I expected the comb to turn red by now. Every one but one person is leaning cockerel, but the one person that said pullet is the go to gender person here at BYC, but she needs to see updated pictures around week 7. I am thinking I will have a better sense of what I have in the next 2 weeks. But I am still leaning toward rooster, although I have some new hope that it can be a hen.

I also have a blue australorp that is the same age. She has no comb development, no wattles, and her tail grew in faster then the rest of the chicks I have. So I'm thinking she is a hen.

Your Blue Australorp doesn't have any comb development and the wattles are still pink. I think you will get a better sense in the next 2-3 weeks.

I am updating this thread, our Black Australorp (Sprout), despite showing initial signs of being a cockerel, has laid her first egg at 22 weeks! She also has a massive comb which is probably why her comb was red and large after only 6 weeks
