3 week old bantam Cochins help me sex me....

Thank you!! Oh I so hope so! I also got 3 D’uccle’s when I got the 3 Bantam Cochins. And all three D’uccle’s are for sure roosters. I definitely don’t need 3 more Roos!!
Awww bummer on the D'Uccles!! I have two and they are soooo sweet... they are 6+ months now and laying, and even sweeter than when they were tinier. My 2 cochins are 6 weeks old this week.

Oh man, this girl makes me think maybe they are Roos! How unlucky would that be to get 6 out of 6 Roos!? (I also got 3 D’uccle’s at the same time and they are all roosters for sure.)
One of mine at times has looked more pink, and a little red on the waddles, but fades to yellow again.. also, i notice the indoor pics seem to pull more color than is actually visible when youre looking at them yourself.

Love the D’uccle’s! I’m going to try and keep the roosters they are so friendly and sweet and hopefully stay that way. I will try again next spring for a hen. I saw that my pet chicken actually sells sexed D’uccle’s so I’m going to go that route next time.

Check out this pic.. 10 week cockerel.. you can see the red is RED and way more comb/waddles

I was able to see the comb shape pretty easily for the D'uccles to pick out which were boys/girls from the bantam bin. Anywhere that sells them at a feed store that you can see them in person at?

Oh ya that pic of the 10week old is more red and much bigger wattles. 🤔
I did find a feed store that had an assortment of feathered leg bantams once I realized I had all roosters I went and I picked out 2 that were on the smaller side but they were day old chicks so combs seemed To me to be all the same. They are about 6 weeks old now. one did turn out to be a hen the other is a rooster. But the little hen was dead yesterday morning. 😢 the universe just doesn’t want me to have a girl d’uccle!! 😩 (she had been very lethargic the last week And sleeping to herself all day so I had a feeling it was coming) 😢

Aw no! I'm so sorry! Losing a chicken can be heartbreaking!

Ill look through my duccle chick pics and get you one of their combs.. its really subtle, but the girl combs are smooth, and you can see the teenie tiniest future bumps on boy combs.. and btw, our only male was soooo small compared to the girls.

I'm so sorry about your chick dying.. i totally understand, i bonded to these birds within days.. even having to rehome puts me in an anxiety filled state. ♥️

Thank you! That would be very helpful!

Ok hopefully these help... here's what i was looking at, and have gotten soooo good at picking girls from the bantam bin..

Here is cinnamon.. my only boy.. picked him knowing he might be a boy because i loved his coloring (mille fleur).. but my hunch wasn't wrong.. see how obvious the little spikes were, this was just as i brought him home, so a few days old..

Here is Minnie (female) with cinnamon again.. notice his tail isn't developed and his wing feathers have that distinct L shape.. the females get full wing length feathers right from the start..

Here is Minnie again, i think at 2 weeks.. you can see even if the comb is starting to pop up, it's smooth.. look at her cheeksies 😍

And a close up of her wing, the feathers all reach back.. no gap like on cinnamon

Another close up of Minnie's comb

Here they are all piled up.. 3 to the left are all D'uccles.. and Cinnimon was so tiny in comparison.. but you can see that comb is a sharp ridge sticking up. He was younger than Minnie by a week.. but the comb was still ahead of hers.

So between the comb and the L shape, you should be able to see which are males.. if you have a vibe it might be male, it probably is. Take your time picking them.. this last time i picked 4 out of 5 successful females from the bantams, and got 5 out of 6 on my first pick! (I studied chick pics like a weirdo before i went in).
