It just started tonight, she wasn’t doing it this afternoon when I checked her, she had a good weight and had food in her. I let my chickens free range is a small area. I feed them chick starter feed and give them a mineral, electrolytes, and probiotics water every other day. I usually give a Chicken with respiratory problems antibiotics, but she is so young and not sure how to treat her before it get out of hand.

Do you currently own any chickens that have had respiratory infections in the past? Once a chicken has a respiratory infection they become carriers for life and you should either cull the entire flock or close your flock as they will just continue to infect any new birds. For this particular chick I would watch her for now. If she seems to still be doing fine (eating and drinking) then I would wait to treat with antibiotics. Antibiotics only treat the symptoms not the infection.

Yas I do have 3 Hens who have that problem right now and many of our other chickens had it in the past. I did not know they become carriers, I didn’t do much too keep them separated I thing the 3 weeks old chicks mama(the broody hen) had it too.😩

There are many different respiratiry diseases, including infectious bronchitis virus, ILT virus, and bacterial infections from mycoplasma (MG,) and coryza. Fungal disease aspergillosis is from mold. The viruses and mold will not respond to antibiotics, but MG and coryza may. MG can be passed through hatching eggs as well as from contact. Close your flock since most diseases make survivors carriers for life.

Have you seen bubbles in eyes or swollen eyes in the past? What did you treat with in the past? Tylosin powder can treat symptoms of MG, and you can get that here:

Were the chicks laid and hatched by your hens or brought in from elsewhere? You can still hatch your own eggs from your hens but just can't sell it give away any chicks. It doesnt matter if you kept them seperate or not, once they were integrated then they would have been exposed since the bird becomes a carrier for life.
