3 week old lethargic chick

I have a bufforpington,2 weeks old, was doing great till yesterday afternoon. Now she is lethargic, just laying around, beak is opening and closing like she is trying to chirp but no noise is coming out. She doesn't seem to be eating or drinking. Any ideas?

Same as above. You need to treat her for coccidiosis asap. It is probably the most common thing chicks this age come down with and you need to at least rule it out since it is lethal to chicks in a very short amount of time.

Thank you very much for your advice. I've quarantined her and hope to get meds as soon as the store opens!

sounds like it could be coccidosis. please look up symptoms and remember bloody poo isn't always present until later . good news is cocci can be successfully treated with CORID. corid is best because it kills ALL 9 strains of cocci as other meds only kill some strains. I've seen corid save many lives. if the chick isn't drinking as it should be give the medicated water in a dropper CAREFULLY! with cocci time is of essence so if you notice the lethargy and ruffled feathers and excessive sleepiness start treatment asap. medicated feed is NOT a treatment for cocci it just helps prevent it however they can still get cocci on the medicated feed. if you notice the symptoms I'd absolutely treat with corid. knowing medicated feed is NOT a treatment for cocci and just a preventive. so take a look at coccidosis online see if you agree symptoms match knowing that bloody stool can come later in the infection.. I'd start the corid
you can purchase it at the feed store or similar. i don't think your being paranoid about this.i do hope this was helpful and do wish you the best of luck. if she were mine and displaying the beginning symptoms of cocci I'd start corid asap. If you cant specifically find corid look for amprol. its basically the same.they are BOTH Amprolium and a coccidiostat.(cures cocci) its a 5 day treatment. best wishes
Same issue here...The Corid I'm finding at TSC is for cattle & the dosage instructions (below) are abvioulsy not going to work for a 3 week old chick. It's the 20% powder. How do I administer this for a chick? I need to start treatment today as our chicks have exhibited this behavoir now for a couple fo days. Thanks!!

Dosage / Administration for 5-Day Treatment Program:
Add Corid

20% Soluble Powder to drinking water at the rate of 4oz./50 gal. One 10 oz. packet to 125 gallons of water. For automatic water proportioners that meter 1 fl. oz. per gallon of drinking water, add 1 bag (10 oz.) in 1 gallon of water to make stock solution. At the usual rates of water consumption, this will provide an intake of approximately 10 mg amprolium/kg (2.2 lb.) body weight. Offer this solution as the only source of water for 5 days.

Welcome to BYC!

I believe the 20% powder dose is 1/2 a teaspoon per gallon for five days and the 9.6% liquid dose is 9.5ml per gallon for five days. Make fresh daily.
