Are you falling for Chicken Math like me? I am afraid to count how many I have now! Too many. But I figure in the next couple yrs my old gals will be departing this earthly realm, so I need replacement overseers.
You and me NEED nothing we can’t supply on our own. We’re not too different you and me

Yes, PC1 has more gold on its body, PC2 is darker.

I really need to get names for all these chicks - I now have 9 babies here, heaven help me! I am all chicked out.

It's to the point where I am going around singing Elvis' song 'I'm all shook up' and changing the words to more appropriate poultry theme 'I'm all chicked out'
🤣

Of course the chooks just look at me like I am cracked!
Is there a mental health clinic near you Kel?

Falling down the rabbit hole....

Started researching vaccines and came across a disease I have never heard of before.

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD)

Did you all know that Gallinaceous birds (chickens, turkeys, etc) all have this organ called a Bursa of Fabricius responsible for immune health? And that they can get this infection that affects it.

I tell you the more I read about chickens the more freaked out I get!

Hopefully I never see that disease here.

And this is the reason for my rabbit hole expedition: vaccines for Mycoplasmosis G. Looks like I am likely not able to get my gang vax for this anytime soon though.

This is a very interesting site, it is geared to commercial layers but still interesting, this lists vaccines recommended for commercial operations depending on which pathogen is present in an area:

I should have said 'I thought she was a houdan'

They are adorable!

With my two I am planning on trimming back their topknots today so that they can see better. So I won't be able to use the 'topknot' theory to distinguish gender. But it's far more important that they can see I feel - esp at this age where they are starting to explore and fly everywhere, and if Tippy the brat keeps flying over the stall wall into Lulu's stall (where I planning on moving them permanently today), I want them to be able to get away from her if she decides to be a twit. She's actually pretty good with chicks and the others but still one never know.

But, I am planning on closing off the route over the stall wall due more to the fact I want to keep those two quarantined at least another week. I feel that their respiratory issue is something I am sure my gang had last winter, so I am not overly worried about that seeing as how it's already present - but there are others that worry me. Not much one can do about Mareks or New Castle (both of which I have not hear to be around here much). Flu would have shown up by now, and any other diseases also.

I double checked them for lice (just thinking of that makes me scratch haha), and now all I want is for them to get used to me being around, and to gain more weight. They are eating well and drinking the Tylosan water still.

Next weekend I'll let them outside with the main gang - outside in the fresh air where they won't have to worry too much about being closed off inside and caught in a corner or something and clobbered. I thought about putting them in with Mr P but I worry about the mama hens - they are fairly quiet but I don't know what they will do to strangers. One never knows with mamas - why take a chance!

Who knew chickens could be a stressful as horses.....

I was looking up vaccines for MG too just yesterday, but I didn’t get far into it. I noticed My Pet Chicken vaccinates their started pullets for MG when I clicked through an email just to look at pullets….But they don’t offer it for their day-olds, maybe because it needs to be two shots?

All morning I have been separating the two game hens from fighting (to death) over one chicklet who only wants to be with the rest. I called my therapist, she’s not open on Saturday 😔😫I don’t know what to do!! I was supposed to fly to Texas today too! Being a chicken daddy is hard sometimes!:he
