Greetings Fellow Feathery Friends:

My 3 - year old siklie is laying soft eggs. I am putting oyster shells in their (3 - hens 1 - rooster 50' X 15' Run) feed but it does not help because they do not eat the feed. They eat bugs and veggies and healthy table scraps.

The worse part is that they are all eating the soft eggs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

You can give her a shot of calcium. Not sure if you have to get that from the vet or not.

You can also blend up some eggs with the shells on, and scramble them for her. That will boost her calcium.

You can also crush a tums in her water.

You can get a bag of crushed oyster shells from most farm supply stores....Tractor Supply, Orschelens etc(maybe even some pet stores will have it). That is what we give as well as crushed egg shells to provide enough calcium so they won't have soft shells.

I put oyster shells in their feed and they will not eat it. They mostly eat bugs and grass.

Thanks,
Jim
