33 Eggs Due to Hatch Oct 25 (Hatch Complete)

Yes, they were very pretty. Lots of Eucalyptus trees too. Just imagine my shock when my friend told me she was taking me to the mountains.

It was my first trip to the east coast.

I don't think we have eucalyptus trees here. Never saw one. Actually, I don't believe they can grow here in this zone. The N. Ga. Mtns are covered in oak, maple, ash, sourwood, beech, sassafras, dogwoods, pine, etc.

Sadly, the lone BR egg was a quitter. I'm beginning to think something is amiss with my BR girls. Last time, this same hen's and one other's quit, too. They are molting a bit, but I've never had issues like that with them. Well, it was accidental that her egg was even in this batch. Darn, was going to give this BR to Kullas, who can't seem to get a BR if his life depended on it lately.

Sorry, Chris! Not sure what's up with my BR ladies.

I recandled a handful of the Dels, six or seven of the batch, and they are all humming along just fine. May not recandle them till perhaps I am taking them out of the turner. JamesA, are you keeping track? These are your 29 babies going into Day 14 now.

I was thinking about the problem with your BR. Is there a new roo in with them? Maybe it's a compatiblity problem. There might be something genetic going on between them that stops development at some point.

No, this guy has been flock roo for a year now. Nothing has changed, but it was a good thought, Laney. Two of my BRs going on four years old and the other two are going on three years old, but that is not ancient. One older one and one younger one are not laying due to their molts, but Becca is over hers, I think.

Then I'm at a loss unless it is nutritional due to them losing out in the pecking order now that they are getting older? I haven't had chickens long enough to know if they maintain their position in the pecking order or lose it to younger hens.

Either way I would think you would find out in the spring if it is time to replace them as breeders and just let them live out their lives as Biddies.
