Hello, I have a small beginner flock of 6 hens. All had started laying quite a while ago except for one Easter Egger. They were all born on the same day and have been together since the beginning. She is not even squatting yet. She is definitely not a rooster. They are confined to a run so I know there are no hidden eggs. She is my smallest bird but she is eating and drinking and active like the rest of them. I have never seen anyone ever pick on anyone else. They are a quiet, happy bunch. Will she ever lay or is she a dud?

Be patient. Believe me, I know it's hard. I'm still waiting for some of my late bloomers to start laying also. I found with the shorter days, that even my breeds that typically lay early took longer to start. I have 2 Golden Comets, one has been laying for weeks, the other laid her first egg yesterday. The same with my 2 Buff Orpingtons. One has been laying the other seems to have no intention of starting even though they are the same age. As long as there are no health issues, every bird is different and will start to lay when nature says to do so.

She's just slower to mature, she will start laying when her body is ready.
