I have 2 silver-laced Wyandottes that are 36-weeks and still not laying (it’s December 30th). My 24-wk-old Pearl Star Leghorns and 34-wk-old Ameraucana are both laying quite regularly, so I find it strange that they are still not laying.

They are on layer feed now and receive a few hours supplemental lighting and (I believe) live in a stress-free environment with plenty of space to roam. I’ve also read that some birds can take up to 9 mths to produce, but I’ve also read that this breed usually starts producing a lot earlier.

Anyone else experienced this?

Some breeds take longer to start laying, and one of those breeds happen to be the Wyandotte. Some will start laying earlier but it seems most tend to starting around the 30-40 week mark (although for some, it can be even longer) Be patient because the will start laying soon. I also have a SLW who is 30 weeks old, and her to lay an egg. She did start squatting this week so that seems to be a good sign, but my nest box only has one blue egg a day from my Easter Egger. Unfortunately, your “Ameraucana” Is actually an Easter Egger as well.

Good luck and be patient! We are all waiting together

My Wheaten Ameraucanas are 28 weeks and not laying yet, although their combs are starting to grow and darken. Each bird lays at her own pace - some breeds taking longer to mature than others. I'd imagine my pullets are a few weeks away from lay as their pelvic bones haven't opened up nicely below their vents yet and they aren't squatting when I pet their backs firmly.

As mentioned, your "Ameraucana" is actually an Easter Egger (EE) which is the usually the result from crossing a blue egg layer (like an Ameraucana) with a tinted or white egg layer. Any Ameraucanas that don't meet the colour standards for the breed - what you get when you cross two incompatible colour varieties - are also considered EEs. Unfortunately EE's are often sold as Ameracuanas or Americanas, but they are stunning beautiful birds that often lay blue or green eggs (and are highly sought after for these colours). I'm planning on breeding my Ameracaunas to both my Cochin and Marans roosters next year to get some lovely shades from the F1 Easter and Olive Egger prodigy :)

I have three Golden Laced, and they were hands down the LAST to lay for me expect the Bantam, who still has not pushed out an egg yet...

So interesting! But good to know. My husband keeps asking if they’re sterile 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ll just keep patiently waiting....

Your ameraucana is actually an Easter Egger. Wyandottes do start laying later, mine started at 9 or 10 months. Some just mature faster than others.
Yes, I’ve been guessing she’s an EE, even though TSC had them labeled as Ameracaunas. I still love her and her eggs!

I just find it interesting that everything I’ve read says the SLW starts laying so much sooner. Only in forums have I started seeing 9-10 months. Thanks for your input.
