3cats 2acres and 1Hen

Very cheeky title and avatar name.
Often I don’t respond to the newcomers but this activated my brain. 1 hen alone with 3 cats made me curious.
My situation was the other way around this morning, and many more lately.

A strange cats comes to visit our chickens and loves to eat from the chicken feed (chick crumble)

I would go for the friendliest rooster that isn't too loud. More important than the looks. Mixing up the gene pool is always good for longevity.
I don't know much about normal sized and large breeds.

Congrats with the anniversary Angela! 🎉

My cats were kittens when I got them along with my second set of peeps, I wanted them to grow up together so the cats wouldn't try to eat them lol! My guy, Hunter, sleeps in their coop and nesting boxes, much to their chagrin, but they put up with him, he loves to chow down on their food too

Hiya, Angela, and welcome to BYC! :frow

I loved your intro!

I was just in one of my state poultry groups on Facebook and there were a plethora of adult roosters posted for probably free, but you'd have to message to find out. I think most know not to keep or give away mean roosters and a couple I saw were actually so sad to get rid of theirs as they were so friendly.

If you can find one that's over 7-8 months old, it's probably gone through its hormone stage by then, so chances are if they are nice at that age or older, they'll remain that way.
Good tips thank you!
Hi Angela, welcome to BYC! Loved your intro, i will tell my grandson (18) that he is my Hen and see what he says! :lau As for your questions, sorry I can't help you, I don't know eniugh about the breeds you listed. I agree with the others, get the most respectful rooster you can find, to maintain peace in the flock and make sure your chicken journey is joyful for you!
I'm incubating some American Bresse eggs and hope to get 2 roos!! I thought I would start a heritage breed for meat/eggs and would need a spare rooster, so why not let him be my mixed flock guy, right? That's going to be my plan unless I learn otherwise :) my black astralorp went broody so I gave her some of my American Bresse eggs and put her in the basement hahaha! I hope she getss some chicks to mama🐣💕
