Yeah, get a better flashlight. Like I said, I have a small LED one that has maybe about a quarter sized top that projects. Easy to put the egg over top and then cover what's left with your fingers.

Saturdays are usually dead until about 20 minutes prior to close then all heck breaks loose. I rarely get out of here on time. Today has been slow so far so I'm just working on the pending queue which was up to 1200 Rxs when I came in ... gets tedious so I've been taking a few BYC sanity breaks.

I surely resemble that remark (Hatch A Holic). I just realized I have 5 packages of shipped eggs so far and have another 2-3 coming.... and that's within the past 2 weeks! If it helps, 1 shipment was for 3 purchased plus 1 extra egg. BUT, other boxes contained 2 dozen eggs each.....

I have ducks.. runners, pekin, magpie & Muscovy. The last ducks I got where the Muscovy and by FAR the best, cutest & friendliest of the 29 ducks I have. I have my runner on CL, they started out cute and cuddly, now that act like I am the boogie man or something. If they don't sell on CL, they are off to the auction.

We will be waiting for pictures.

I candled last night; I'm still at a loss. I set the eggs on the 5th, so I'm 3 days ahead of most of you. On most eggs I saw a small, say 1" line of a pink vein, but nothing like what I saw through my white eggs last year. These are light brown. I thought I could see some movement, but that could have been the yolk moving around? I'm not expecting anything, as I would think I would see quite a spiderweb of veins at this point of development. I will look again on Wednesday, which will be 2 weeks, and see if I see a dark area. There has to be a chick body in there at that point. Then make the decision to keep going or give up. Sigh, I want babies!

Dark eggs can be tough to see through at this stage, you need a pretty bright light. I got sick of my led flash light flickering so I took the plunge and ordered an ovascope. I hope it works!

Here's some eye candy for all the Iowa Blue hatchers out there:

I have what probably is the single most stupidest question to ask you, but I gotta know.

Do your chickens stay up for 20 or so hours during the summer, only going to roost when it gets dark?

Mine want outside from the second it starts to get light and stay outside until it's almost completely pitch black out. I've always wondered how the chickens way up north react to the almost continuous daylight.

I asked this same question... but the reverse on the AK board. You know, when it's totally dark for a month how do they get up and go outside? Do you need lights...

I got the whole thread up in arms
