3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Banty roos are PERFECT for processing. You can get 3 in a crockpot, no problem.

I'm having fertility problems with my silkie x LF birds.....not one egg so far has been fertile! And it's not for a lack of trying, LOL. I've gotta get some video of my white silkie roo "mating" one of my buff orpingtons. It's hilarious! He tries, gets off, tires again, gets off, walks around her trying to figure out what's going wrong, gets on again. All the while the hen is crouched down waiting for him to DO something!

Probably looks like I'd look trying to get into a big rig truck.

My cross was uncomfortable, too. I have this teeny banty hen and she was mated repeatedly by a huge turken roo. I thought she'd be crushed when he got off (cause you couldn't even see her under there), but she wasn't.

I've got my incubator bleached and Lysol wiped... almost ready to turn it on and see if it needs adjusting.

Getting some duck mutt eggs on Thursday...

Also about to sit down and assign swappers to each other.

I don't think my roos are going to get it in gear in time. I suppose I could hatch all of my OE eggs, but that wouldn't be very many.

I'll be checking for fertility at the end of next week... looking for bullseyes. I've only seen Junior mate with the two girls.. Splash Wheaten Ameraucana and Olive egger.

When I went out this afternoon to gather the second batch of eggs for the day, the broody was on the wrong nest. Glad the eggs are in Laree's bator! But if she's still broody on the 9th I'll put the chicks under her to brood.

I'm a procrastinator. Still thinking about this.

I have too many chickens already. My downsizing for winter efforts are hardly even noticeable.

To top that, "someone," led me astray and told me about an auction on rarebreeds and I just had to go look.
