I know what you mean, I think I have had a broody silkie all week. I let them out in the morning and it is just starting to get light out, and by the time I am home it is dark. Just noticed that she didn't get up out of the corner where she likes to sleep, don't think I have seen her up all week. Have no idea how many eggs are under her or what kinds

Ohh well I guess I will let her do her thing and worry about that later.

I've never been to Oregon, I'll come on out. I'm terrible with anything 3D though but I can assemble when told precisely what to do. I also do not operate power tools (if you've ever met me, you know why).

The other wooden brooder will hold the ducks, and I have a 75 gallon aquarium and some gigantic cardboard shipping boxes too for overflow.

He is quite wonderful... and if you were closer I'd have him commission one. I can get him to tell you the dimensions and pieces you need, if you want.

Your place sounds heavenly.

Your bathroom... does not.

What day do I set quail eggs? I've got a lucky 13 to hatch and an empty little coop for them already!

ps I picked up a duck egg for free at the swap this morning.... I forgot to ask what kind! I know it won't hatch in time, but it was the only egg at the swap!!! I think I have a sickness... LOL

My coturnix usually take about 16 days.. so I'll probably set them on the 15th or 16th to have them hatch out on the 1st

I have coturnix eggs too. Thank you for your help!

We still need at least one more contest: Nancy (Bargain) donated 12 of her wonderful eggs to this hatch along with shipping. Anyone want to run a contest?

If no one posts by tomorrow noon EST I'm going to make it a prize for WORST hatch rate for those that set > 20 eggs. If there's a tie, the person that set the most eggs "wins"

I have four eggs under a slkie broody and 8 in my incubator, three of them she was sitting on and am not sure they are fertile cause my rooster just started breeding,I got some fertile ones to put under her and took the three she was sitting on and put in the incubator will candle at 10 days to see if anything is growing.I live in northern Maine so its really cold here, when they hatch all will go under mama silkie(her name is Jadee) and she will be moved into a dog crate in the coop that she and the others are in but I want her to have a heat lamp and protection for the babies as far as drinking water so they don`t drown in the water dish, its a gallon one and way to high for them to drink out of,I will start them out with a chick waterer then a small heated dog bowl then when they are old enough a step for them to drink out of the big one..

Ok, I think it is panic time! I have not been checking the temps on my Sportsman, it is in the basement and it cannot get up to temp.

It is just too cold down there. So I need insulation ideas. I would bring it upstairs but there is some family drama that I don't want to deal with that keeps me from doing that. At least for this New Years hatch, next year I won't have to worry about it.

I have a ton of bubble wrap, blankets....etc. Should I just bundle it up?

There is an individual on another hatching thread who is having trouble with a new chick - I'm sorry for posting this here if it is wrong but I thought with so many knowledgeable chicken keepers here perhaps some one might have a suggestion for them! This is what they wrote!

We've washed her a couple of times, she will poop a little and then stand and strain again and again, one thread said to give her a drop of olive oil, so I did that. The vent is not plugged. I also gave her a vitamin drop and extra water with the dropper.

I had my home made incubator in the unheated garage with a blanket over it. It was fine until we had highs only in the 20's. I cut it in half last night and now I need to put it back together for the hatch. Oh crud, I don't have much time but I'm trying to get my breeding pens done. I just got a flock of LF BBS Cochins that need a home and the Wellies need out of the laying flock. What to work on first?
