3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Nice calendar photos. <3 them blue eggies.

Private Leghorn just got her post-surgery foot inspection and dressing change. The really bad foot is a bit less swollen, but completely disgustingly macerated on the bottom end where we cut that gigantic scab off. She is, unfortunately, a really bad patient. The last leghorn that we had treated for bumblefoot used to lay down in the water for a bit and then preen herself. She'd stand in the water until we took her out, even if we walked away, unless we put her next to the hen cookie jar, and then she'd try to peck its eyes out. This leghorn refuses to participate in her care, flaps and tries to get out of the water at all costs AND has what I refer to as "nervous biddy poo" - NOT to be confused with broody poo. Where broody poo is horribly smelly and large, but for the most part SOLID, nervous poo is horribly smelly, voluminous and liquid. Reminds me of a squid squirting ink to get away from predators. The leghorn shoots her nervous poo so the inexperienced chicken foot surgeons leave her alone to go dry heave over the sink.

What a great idea!! Is this a contest us "non-participants" are allowed to enter?

Fine by me, if the NYD hatch organizers are okay with it.
