3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Probably the Calendar with pics of chickens on it figuring out the set date for the April 8th (Easter Hatch)...
Which means all of us will be setting for Easter Hatch on St. Patricks Day this year. Makes it easy to remember

Why did I read that as "Which means all of us will be setting for Easter Hatch AND St. Patricks Day this year."

Obviously I have a problem... http://www.pic4ever.com/images/padded.gif

RBF, The 2012 CluckCluckBockBock calendar is one that BYCer kathyinmo created with pictures of her own flock. It is gorgeous and perfect for a desktop. I got one from her when we met at the Crossroads Poultry Show in Indianapolis the end of October. It's not out there for sale or anything..............at least not yet...!!

If you have white eggs you can probably see through them now with an LED flashlight and see the veins forming. If you have any other color egg I'd wait until at least day 10. Then it's pretty obvious what's good and what's not.

When I candle early I always mark eggs that look like they're not developing. I put a slash on them with a sharpie. That way the next candling I can tell if I'm right or wrong and I learn. When in doubt, the egg stays in the bator, marked.

I eggtopsy too, ones that don't progress. I put them in a ziploc bag and seal, then smash with a knife or something. That way you can see what slides out but you aren't subjected to the smell (if there is one).

At the end when all you can see is black in the egg, if they don't hatch by 48 hours post due date I pick them up, put them by my ear and tap on the shell with my fingernail. They should peep back if they're still alive.

LOL, now I am tempted to go candle. I think I'll wait until at least friday, as I stuffed all those eggs in the brinsea and it's gonna be a pain to put them back!!
