I have had a couple bad cases of bumblefoot here, too. Kola, my black Icelandic, had it in both feet. I found that by getting the whole "plug" of cheesy consistency junk out, they heal pretty nice.

Some of the gunk from one foot.........

That is a lot of gunk. I bet Kola feels much better. I think my sister has some birds with bumblefoot... I should go at them.

I'm thinking of the same thing. I have 4 LG's, all with turners, 1 with a fan. I think they hold about 42 or so at a time. Early in the year I had them all full at the same time. Just recently I figured I could set eggs once a week! But, I think I'd rather move up to a bigger bator. With a cabinet bator, my LG's could be used for hatching.

My bigger problem is brooders and grow out pens. I went to Lowe's looking for more huge plastic tubs but they didn't have what I bought before.

Any suggestions?

My favorite brooder is currently this Small Pallet Chicken Tractor.
I covered the sides about halfway up with cardboard and suspended a heat lamp inside from the top. Just plopped the thing on a tarp inside the garage, filled with straw and tadah! I've been using this when the babies get too big for the bin. I've just been doing small batches of chicks lately <10. I've also used rabbit cages, large dog crates wire and plastic and apple crates. It's possible you could find dog crates on Craigslist for a good price. Good luck!

I've been using 110 gallon stock tanks. I use tanks that are cracked and can't be used for water anymore. They also have protein licks for cattle that are in huge round tube. I use those as well. I'm all about reusing once the current use is no longer possible. My cabinet incubator cost me about $10 to build, otherwise it was all scrap material (with the exception of the turners.)

I totally lied about how many eggs I set, I was going to use the bars which makes it hold only 24 but a guy gave me some can not miss eggs and I ended up taking out the bars and cramming it full. 32 eggs woo hoo! I'm most excited about the show bantam eggs he snuck into the cartons, 3 mystery eggs from prize winning Old English Bantams.

I know everything runs together down there, but how far are you from Mesa? My aunt (a USPS employee) and cousins live in Mesa and my sister did an internship there with a minor league baseball team. I went to see her and help her drive back to Wisconsin. It was HOT the end of July but we did go tubing down some river down there.

Gorgeous, Melissa. I have 2 dozen Catdance eggs in my NYD hatch bator. This is my second round with Karen's eggs. I had a real good hatch rate the first time and now have some really nice juveniles. Good luck with your babies, they look great! I love Karen's birds (and she is SUPER nice and helpful)
