3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

You guys almost got to me and I started to load up to candle last night, but decided to wait until the ducks are done hatching so I can just put them into the other incubator when I'm done candling. I prefer to squish as many in there as possible since it doesn't need me at all. I really wish I could get my hands on another used rcom- they're just magnificent.

Don't you hate it when wildlife attacks? I've had a deer v. truck encounter, but it was just a front corner and basically spun the deer off the road with a broken back. Luckily then DH had a carry permit (my ex was a gun dealer) so we could humanely and quickly end the deer's suffering. (And, yes, we called it in....would hate to think folks thought we were poachers or something). The car behind us stopped and the people insisted on putting a Bible under the deer's head. That was one weird roadside encounter, but nice that one errant critter got a proper blessing to the hereafter.

Speaking of when wildlife attacks... I was perusing cable TV the other day and happened upon the Hispanic version (filmed and produced south of the border) of "When Animals Attack." OMG! It was very gory and graphic and made me realize just how sanitized TV from our country is. Actually, I knew that before....I was amazed at how *tidy* the news broadcasts of Hurricane Katrina was in comparison to Oprah's dead-bodies-floating coverage. Wow.... (and now I have veered sufficiently off-topic...)


I guess those exploding 'bator bombs could be considered "When Eggs Attack!"

(I still can't tell much candling, but at least my incubator doesn't have the tell-tale smell of something rotten)

Congrats to Dadsdeercamp! (I had guessed 3523, so wasn't all that far off, but not under) AND a hatchling, too! Good things come in threes....go buy a lottery ticket!

Mahonri, eat a nice Italian meal with lots of oregano and olive oil and garlic- get your anti-inflammatories in a pleasant way, then drink some sleepytime herbal tea and zonk out.

I pray the knee heals in record time with God's hands on it!

I started candling this am. I noticed (I'm a novice) that the best thing to look for this early was veining, since it can be difficult to locate an "eye" I couldn't take the time to candle them all, but have a good 14/44 chicken eggs that are def. developing, so that is encouraging. Do people candle quail eggs or just wait it out till the end? I imagine they can get just as stinky as the rest.

I candled Jim Heinz's beautiful Iowa Blue's this morning. One had a slight crack two look like possible blood rings but it is too early yet to tell and 4 are looking really good
