3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

I have another chick in the bator, and one who is the same amount of unzipped as he was last night. I may go in an give him a hand this afternoon.

It is SO much less stressful hatching my own mutts. Those special ones can raise your blood pressure in good and bad ways.

Well I just checked my eggies, 14 out but one looked very, very still, no current pips so took the opportunity to check it and grab egg shells. Poor baby died, no idea why.

It was actually one of my bigger chicks but looks like it may have bled from it's tummy.

I'm happy with my 13 healthy chicks so far though, a dozen black and dark brown and one lone blondie.

I'm hoping blondie is a splash from my splash Silkie roo and a blue hen but I'll have to wait and see in the morning.

Edit: Happy New Year everyone, I'm heading to bed to watch the fireworks. I'll check my chickies after midnight but I can't exactly win my own comp can I?

I just realized, after over a year and multiple hatches with my nose pressed to the plastic, I've never seen an egg at the moment of 'pip'. They seem to pip the minute I walk out of the room. Zipping, yes, hatching, yes, but haven't seen a 'pip' right when it happens. Maybe this time it will happen.

Still only two pips on my mutt eggs but I now hear peeping.

Soooo I go outside to do chicken chores and I swear I see something streak past....no biggie, must be a mouse. NOPE.......... it is an Iowa Blue chick escaped from the grow out coop.
