3rd batch of Coturnix hatching today

No problem, we just use the generic term, we built a building that is called the "brooder barn". The boxes are 5 foot square and is the last stage before they see the great outdoors. For the quail the reaction is very interesting when they go outside. The quail house is attached to the side of the barn about 5 foot off the ground and it has 1/2 inch hardware cloth as the floor. Some of them get freaked out when they first go in, I guess they get vertigo looking down? some will roll over backwards until they get the hang of it.

oh congrats I hatched 17 yesterday and more are in the bator but somehow my cat got to 10 of them and ate them. there was a hole in the brooder that I did not see (the tubaware bin cracked leaving a hole in the bottom ) I woke up and figured it out

hope yours do better than mine did!

I am also trying to figure out the best feeder cause they waste so much. which hanging feeder do you use? I was thinking of putting 1/4 hardware cloth over them so that the birds could eat it but not kick it out.

Steve, i am surprised that you are using wire mesh in your hatcher when hatching the eggs. Do you find that this causes some of the chicks to get splayed or injured legs??? I have been using paper towels in my hatcher as it provides the chicks with a more stable footing to stand on. Just wondering how it is working for you?...
