You're right! In a perfect world I'd let nature take it's course. I'm paranoid.

By the time I distracted myself a little more we have at least one hatched chick and one working on it.

WHEN CAN I OPEN IT!!! LOLL

I'm so excited!! I guess I have to wait until the end of the day, right?

I also do know I think I had my humidity too high through most of the hatch...but then they would internal pip and drown, right? I wouldn't 'see' it...nothing I could do.

I do duck eggs right after this

Well that is another personal choice, on when to open it. When my chicks hatch I let them dry off in the incubator first. At least most of the time, the first chick that hatched yesterday was so happy to be out she was running around like a crazy chicken! knocking all the other eggs around and pushing around my bowl of water. I ended up grabbing her out before she was totaly dry because she even managed to climb into the bowl of water but could not get back out. I also had more pips when I grabbed her but she had only hatched a few min before and the humidity was still up pretty hight from her moisture. Plus I did it really fast. But there is also a bit of a plus to having a chick in there. It seems to me that when one is in there running around, not only will she bump the eggs around and possibly show you pips you did not even know were there, but I think her calls incurage the ones that are ready to hatch to come out sooner. But that could just be me!
 
My unexperienced self was thinking jsut that...it might encourage the others.

I have a brower all metal so I can't see anything but through a tiny tiny window. Agonizing.

Congrats on the chicks! Go get your camera ready, I'm picture hungry! lol And no, you're not hijacking the thread too much. Love to hear how everyone's hatches are going, very exciting! My one little pip has done nothing since last night, but we're only on day 20 so I'm trying to be patient. At least she peeps at me when I talk to her!

I never know what to do about the chicks rolling the other eggs around. On one hand, they say the eggs are supposed to keep still so the chicks can get oriented inside. How do they do that when their siblings are playing soccer with them??? I've seen people put each of their eggs in a cupcake liner or egg carton - might try that next time!

I've also got a double yolker in the bator right now as an experiment. Both chicks are growing and moving lots, but I've been wondering about hatch time. What does the one on the far end do without an air sac? I've heard some people have had success with twins rarely, so guess I'll just watch it. If nothing else, it's a cool learning experience! 9 more days for that one....
 
Here are my 7 surviving chicks! They all have feathered legs, some yellow, some black and some with yellow and black! I can't wait to see what they feather out to look like. I have 4 others that are 2 weeks old being raised by Momma hen, and their feathers are coming in so nicely. Every time I walk up to the brooder these lil guys all run to the glass and peep at me. They are so sweet. Oh and on a side note I found another lady only about 45 min away from me, that has silkie chicks and eggs for sale. $3 a chick and $10 for a dozen hatching eggs!
The rooster in my avatar is the Daddy of these chicks, and must have some very dominate jeans.

When they are dry, can I put them in a brooder with some 2 1/2 week olds? They have a dedicated brooder I just can't reach the cord until the hubby gets home. I know...short girls.

But I have a brooder with about 15 barred rocks and they pretty much ignore the lamp on one end now. If the chicks just sit in that corner they will be plenty warm.

My two other brooders are full of month olds and meat birds. I'm a little...over-run at the moment.

Um, that I am not sure about. Should be fine, but I would stay close and keep an eye on them to make sure they don't get picked on!
