4/17/12 Hatch buddy anyone?

LOL!!! SO glad to hear I'm not the only one questioning my sanity!!

So, everyone, the eggs I put under my broody are all hatched!!!! 5 bantam cochin babies (2 hatched an entire day early).

Tomorrow is 21 days for my 'bator babies, and there is not a single pip. I was at least hoping they could give me a little encouragement. Well, maybe this means they won't hatch while I'm sleeping.

I haven't been here in a few days, but I've read all the posts. Congrats to everyone whose babies have hatched!!!

Congratulations on the broody hatch my4ladies. Sorry to hear about the incubator problems. I hope everything works out.

ugh. Still nothing from the 'bator babies. Happy official HATCH DAY to many of you!!

According to my husband, still nothing happening with my 4 eggs in the bator.... Today is hatch day so they had better hurry up!

Meanwhile, I am right in the middle of my trip to MD to pick up several breeds of chicks! I drove the three hours to get to MD on Sunday and stayed with a friend. Yesterday (Monday), I drove around all day collecting chicks ( about 5 hours.) I got 7 splash silkie chicks and 7 blue wheaten Ameraucanas. I LOVE the Ameraucanas! They are the most calm chicks I have EVER handled. I spent the night with my friend again and today we are getting ready to go out to get more chickens! Today, we are driving 3 hours each way to get 5 golden cuckoo marans! Then, I will have to drive the 3 hours back home.

So now I have 6 hatched (that is including the sick one) and two more pips in the incubator.

Now for some more bad news.....
Well this morning I went to check on my sick chick, and realized one was missing, now there is no possible way for them to get out as they are in a 150 gallon glass fish tank (untill I get my stand, then beautiful fish only lol) Then I looked down and my inside/outside hunter kitty Bently walked by.... Oh Sh#!, so I knew just what had happend. Stupidly I forgot to cover one open side on the top of the tank and Bently was just doing what we praise him for and taking care of the roadents (so he thought) I found her just a few feet away, STILL BREATHING! I put her right back in and under the heat lamp. She has only been out for maybe 1/2 an hour, because DH just let Bently in when he left at 6:45 and I found her at 7:20am.

She does have a few small cuts on the back of her head, and looks like one of her eyes is injered. But her breathing has slowed back to normal, and she is peeping and gets up and moves and then falls asleep just like the others. The cuts do not look deep at all. Hopeing that she will be ok, not to mention this is my favorite one out of the bunch so far.

Also today, sick chick is still alive. After that whold ordeal, I tended to sick chick. The yolk sack seemd to be very dry so I carfuly took a pair of really shar sicars and sniped off the lil bitty string that was holding it on.....yea right, nope. Because then I notice right under where the yolk sack was now she has a small bit of her intestines hanging out! Good lord!

It never rains but it pours. You are really going through the mill on this one Farmin Momma.

I feel for you and just give thanks that my first hatch has been relatively pain (if not worry) free so far. Still got one in the incubator that doesn't look like it's going to do anything but I have 4 bundles of mischief and mayhem in the brooder. I'll let the last one run until the weekend (it's hardly even late yet, it's just the others were nice and punctual).

Hope everything works out with Sick Chick.

I set on 4/18...should I worry if there are no pips yet?
Nope, don't worrie yet. You are just now on day 20, depending on temp they can hatch any where from day 18 to day 25. So just hold out and try very hard to be patiencet. Hopefuly all goes well for you!

I have a total of 7 that have hatched sense yesterday into this moring. I have 5 more in the bator 2 of which have pips, I have my fingers crossed for the others.
Thanks for the well wishes and hopes!

Tomorrow is day 21, right? I wouldn't worry yet! Do you see any of the eggs moving at all? Did you candle before lockdown? And remember, "21 days" isn't always a for-sure time, especially in an incubator. Keep the faith and try not to worry! I set mine on the 19th, and these last couple of days are killin me, especially with all the stories of everyone's new babies!

Farrmin Momma - so sorry about the cat problem and sick chick! I've lost many a baby button quail to my cats - they seem to think I hatch them out as little appetizers especially for them!

Wish I knew what to tell you for sick chick besides wait and see how it does. And keep it away from the other ones so they don't pick on her.

And congrats to the rest of you - where are all the pics???

I am so jealous right now! I've been wanting splash Silkies forever and a day, and have also been looking for some Marans. I got 3 Ameraucana chicks this spring, but they are plain white and boring! lol And wild, even as much as I tried to hold them and play with them. I only have 1 one Blue Marans chick, since my 2 BCM chicks died. I need more! I can't believe chickens are so hard to find in North Dakota! Having no luck on shipped eggs at all.
