4/5 of my chickens dead. What to do with the surviving?

Quote:
Well first I have owned as many as 15 bugs at one time and used them for hunting hogs when that was legal in this state and other types of dogs at
the same time and at that time I paid for them and cared for them and I was in High School myself on top of that I used them at a hunting Resort
that catered to people from the Bay Area or San Francisco who made the 6 and 7 figure incomes in the 60's and 70's so I had to have fairly descent
dogs who could also be around children and having 7 Brother's and sisters other then myself but yes a bull dog who was strong enough to take
down a 200+ pound Hog could also complain if he did not get to sleep with one of the kids was rather funny to me and still to this day .....
Oh the last time I worked there was just before their closing in 2004 ....

But you are probably right I had hunting dog's who had to be trained to a standard from a puppy of (less then 1 1/2 years old) or up ..

But still when we went to work or school the dogs were tied up for their safety as well as others .... And any of our dog's who crossed the line
and hurt or killed one of the chickens paid one way because the line was crossed ,, we even had a Raccoon & Opossum as yard pets when
I was young and the dogs would bark but really booth died from old age and yes booth would steel the food from the dog's and with half a chance
would also take egg's from the chickens nest if they were not picked up fast enough but lucky for them they never killed any chickens ether or
they would have gone to Valhalla as well ....

But with each person their own way of raising and training their animals as every person's standard differs ....

And yes Dog's do deserve Kennels as being tied up is not something that looks like fun .....

We also kept the bear hounds tied up or in a kennel in the case of a female in heat. Never really worked with them on chickens because they weren't near them that much but they did seem to just get used to them as a fixture around the yard, they seemed to know being around the yard was different from loading in the truck and going hunting. My bird dogs don't get tied or kenneled as they don't wander off and they listen well. They live indoors with us and pretty much go with us if we aren't going to work.

For the dog thing I think it works better to slowly accustom the dog to chickens so hold it by the collar and each day bring it closer to the chicken coop, when it shows signs of aggression back away. Teach your dog to be accustom to chickens.
