4.5 week old chicks - pullets or cockerel help

Can anyone tell me if it’s normal for day old silkie chicks struggling to eat? They are most definitely interested in eating but it’s like they can’t get the feed. I crushed some up a bit and they would try to eat it out of my hand but still not able to get it.
