So My neighbors brought home three maybe barnyard mix from craigslist. She said there were way too many chickens kept in a small muddy area, and most had no tails probably due feather picking.

She tried to get pullets, but because they were so muddy, it was hard to tell. I don’t think I see any pointy hackle feathers...

For breed, I’m guessing leghorn and barred rock mix? One I’m sure is a pullet.

I’ll consult you guys for the other two...

Those poor things! So wonderful that they are out of that situation. I would say the first is a pullet. The second, possible cockerel, but without knowing an exact age and with the messy state of the feathers it is kinda hard for me to give the affirmative on that.

Got more photos of the barred one. If it’s a roo, she’ll have to give it away :(

I’ll go and get more photos tomorrow when they’re less messy. Now I’m no longer sure on the one I thought was definitely a pullet 😬

Well I zoomed in and I'm not seeing anything super obvious. If this is an older bird, it would be laying soon or has already layed in the past judging by the comb. Do you know how to check the "butt bones"? If the finger spacing between the "butt bones" is two or more fingers, that is for sure a hen that has laid an egg. If this is a young bird, I would have to say cockerel. Though I am leaning more towards older POL pullet with these new photos

Thanks! I’ll take more photos tomorrow. I feel so bad for them. My own chickens are the same age and have gorgeous fluffy feathers and a nice dry run and coop. I wish I took a photo if how muddy they were when my neighbor brought them back, The two white chooks were brown... it was atrocious.
