4 chicken limit

I'm not a fan of Wyandottes either. Mine were loud, obnoxious bullies.😭
I do love my GL wyandotte, she is incredibly friendly and loves to be held. But after my RIR passed she moved to top spot in the pecking order and is a bit of a bully to the others, and she's my roosters favorite, so she does and takes whatever she wants 🙄

Hey, BYC members!
I know a family who wants to get chickens at some point, but they can only have 4 where they live.😭
Any breed suggestions? They have young kids, and want eggs but also pets.
I was thinking Australorps would be pretty good for them...
So if you could

I'm still a beginner, but I've learned a lot in a short time and out of all my breeds, I think my Splash Marans are my favorite. They're pretty, friendly (my husband had turned them into the neediest creatures 😂), and they're mostly quiet (except when they want attention and know we're nearby ignoring them lol). A close second would be my Easter Eggers, as they're friendly, come in a lot of colors, sizes, and the kids would love the colored eggs!

Orpingtons. We got two buffs five years ago, still have one and they are super, super sweet. This year we got more chicks and we only got Orpingtons (we got lavender and chocolate). A word of caution, they are often (not always) bullied by more dominant breeds. We had to rehome a Wyandotte and Brahma to a neighbor because they bullied the orps so bad.

We call them our derpingtons. They are silly, goofy and fun. Ours swarm my feet and sit on my shoes. Pudding likes gentle pets. Lucia wants to sit on my shoe. Cookie likes to do zoomies.

Our five year old orp (and her bestie the barred rock) is still laying an egg every other day this spring.

I would suggest Turkens or naked necks. They are so friendly and easy to take care of. They also are healthier and weather tolerant so any climate works. They are good layers but can be meat birds....not by me. They are also just plain cute and love people.
