Hi! Im a 4her who lives in Washington county, MD. This year I wanted to show some of my chickens in our county Fair.

here are the rules for the classes. These will probably be dumb questions, but I've never done this before. First of all, where do I get poultry premises ID number, and where do I get state approved leg bands. I've searched the internet and I can't find how to get them. Also, what breeds fall under the american, Asiatic, Mediterranean, and English categories. I will be grateful for any help! Thank you!!

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am in a horse club, and there are no chicken clubs that I know of in my county.

Generally speaking - Horse and Pony are their own club, but the rest of the animal based projects fall under the general club rather than each project having it's own club (other exception being dog) - are you not a member of your local general club (in this county, for example, there are 9 general clubs - most are geography based in that there is one for each of the tiny communities around the county and then a couple that are from "town")? When you registered with the extension office did they assign you to a club and/or leader outside of the H&P project/club? My concern is that we are pretty much knocking on the door of most county fairs right now time wise - and many of the animal based requirements are time related with certain things having to be done x # of days out from exhibition, etc and you may have missed some important deadlines that will keep you from being able to exhibit this year.
You really need to contact the extension office for your county and make inquiries there to sort this out.

Call your county extension office and talk with the agent in charge of the 4H program.
