Hello everyone! :D I'm a member of 4-H and I'm currently looking for bantam breeders (preferably show quality) in Northern Illinois. For the poultry show I compete in, birds must be hatched in the same year as the show (late July), so I'm looking for birds that were hatched either this month or will be hatched early next month. I would like d'Anvers, Sebrights, or Nankins, but I'm open to any breed :) All suggestions welcome! Thanks!

Also, any tips for finding show quality birds are welcome as well, as it is my first time searching for breeders :)

Can you give a more specific location?
I breed D'Uccles and I am located 30min NW of Milwaukee, WI.

Google breeders clubs for the breeds you are looking for.

Call your 4-H county office and see if there are past 4-H members that showed bantams. Those past 4-Hers may still have their lines/ breeding stock and might be a source. Recently went to our 4-H office and were chatting about goats (we saw some at an auction, but do not have any)...4-H coordinator for the county indicated that if we wanted to get into miniature goats, that a past member had offered to help out any 4-Hers interested in mini goats. So, maybe your area has an equally enthusiastic past member in bantams.

You can look up NPIP certified breeders/hatcheries.

By State: http://www.poultryimprovement.org/statesContent.cfm

You will need the breed codes. They are listed here: http://www.poultryimprovement.org/documents/StockCodesAlphabetical12-19-2018.pdf

The bantam codes are listed starting on Page 12 pf the above link.

Good Luck

This is extremely useful in so many ways. I just wish they included a form of contact other than just address.

With the farm or breeder name, you can google it on maps - sometimes the listing will then include contact info. Or use Fb and see if they have a fb page. You could contact the ag extension office in the county to see if they have contact info.

But, if they've taken the time to get NPIP cert., it likely means they are trying to sell eggs/chicks and so likely have some kind of outlet for selling. fb, craigs list, etc.

of course, there is always snail mail!
