4-h show hens

Hello,
My daughter just signed up to show 4-h chickens. We have one mixed breed for showmanship and are looking for a pure bred hen for breed showing. Please let us know if you have any pure bred hens. We are located in Tracy CA.

Are there particular breeds she ee wants? Bantam or large fowl?

Bantam that will do good on shows. Perfect or near perfect breed spec.
We are new to this so I may be wording it wrong.
We want to stay with small sized hens.

Once you have 20 posts, you can use the buy-sell-trade forum here on BYC. Things come and go off of there fairly quickly so you never know what might be offered.

Not sure that anyone has near perfect specimens for show. I bred dogs for several years and none at the shows were perfect either. But you can get "very good," if you are a careful shopper.

Howdy and Glad you joined the family. Enjoy your time here! The best way (not always the easiest) to find show quality birds is to go to shows/ fairs. Try to obtain birds from a breeder at the show that has good stock. Best of luck in your endeavors.

Welcome to BYC. Try to attend a local show. Look at the birds and pick a breed that she really likes. Then try to get stock from someone with that breed who wins/places in the show. Try to enlist that person as a mentor for your child.
