I thought from your one of your initial descriptions that you were able to feel that the bone stopped outside the body. If that’s the case, they can probably band. Why not just ask the vet? Can’t hurt just to ask. It‘s something that would be done by the vet... I’m not saying you should do it yourself.Yes exactly thank you! And there would be NO blood! None at all. That’s the point. The elastic band acts as a tourniquet and cuts off the circulation. By the time the banded part falls off, the skin has healed and there’s no worry about bleeding or infection. There’s generally not even a noticeable scar... not easily noticeable anyway.
I know it sounds gruesome— but it really, really is not.
Like I said, why not ask the vet? Maybe he just didn’t think about doing it that way... Like you said, he’d never seen a chick with extra legs before. It’s not like there’s a course in vet school called “Creative amputation options for various conditions...”
