She perches well, Just a bit of a balance problem, but hey all have that they are 6 days old

Banding will not work because there is bone involved. The bone needs to be cut

Yes exactly thank you! There would also be a lot of blood we wouldn't wan to deal with.

Chickens tend not to eat/drink when they are in pain. I would say just wait and see.

She is eating and drinking so well! She's the healthiest of the bunch really. Maybe you can help me, some of the birds poo all liquid, is this normal- it has only been today but i'm still worried

Did you call the Hatchery? Maybe they can give you more information.

Cackle basically apologized and said there wasn't anything they could do

Seems unethical they would have sent one like that. I use Meyer Hatchery and that never would have been given to someone at least without consent. I would do my best to try to help her survive, I would notify the hatchery and not buy there again. Quality control and possibly genetics in question if you ask me.

Possibly a vet could amputate the extra legs if it ends up being a problem later. But wow! Just wow!!

What may have happened is that the chick was a twin and it absorbed its twin. That happens in human twins as well. It is rare, but does happen. So instead of a Siamese twin it has four legs. Interesting.
I had a male duck that would not leave my hens alone. One of the chicks came out with a duck bill and chicken feet. It did not survive. But it too was interesting.

Nope vet said it caused by polymelia and is a genetic/envoirnmental deformity... I will not be ordering from cackle again

All, I have Gotten 2 PM about purchasing Clover from me for breeding purposes. She is not for sale nor will she ever be. Also breeding Clover is cruel and unnecessary. If it is genetic related all you would be doing is causing harm. If I see any more you will be reported. Thanks!

Mmmm… how do i say this. I ordered 6 chicks from Cackle Hatchery, i was given 8! and one of them has 4 legs. I honestly don’t expect survival but it doesn’t seem to be in pain?? I’m not sure how I would tell… But I just don’t know what to do.

Could you have someone else hold the chick (upside down) so all 4 legs and the vent are clear?? I believe you, but clearer pics would help to get ‘precice advice’.

Thank you. I will if I get the chance. the veterinarian said there is nothing to worry about.
