4 Pirates adrift

I hope someone thought to bring the Cap'n a sandwich and something to drink.

The military waited because they were on orders not to return fire or make a attempted rescue it was reported. Those orders had to have come from the top. And none of the comments you listed invoke Rambo, sorry but when our military goes to do a job they do just that(Boot up the ***) That is why they are respected. And that is why a non veteran has no idea what and how it is done. I guarantee you a lot of vets and soldiers sat with heads hung low as we did with Jimmy Carter.

There is not that much we don't know about this particular situation.

1) Set of 4 cowardly thugs who ran with a hostage instead of fight it out.

2) A closed lifeboat with limited visibility of the outside giving a definite advantage to the seals.

3) Limited firepower by the thugs(small arms) and probably limited ammo as they left the ship in a hurry.

4) Enough food and water for 10 days and communications equipment.

5) A language advantage of the Navy and the hostage to make communications and coordination possible in the thugs presence.

6) Only ONE hostage making the thugs options limited. Demands for money at the center of the negotiations.

7) Inexperienced or incompetent thugs as they were overpowered by the crew not the navy(shameful)

8) One attempt at rescue unanswered when the hostage jumped from the boat to swim to what should have been rescuers. Imagine his surprise when they did nothing. Note this how he was rescued on the second attempt.

9) Lifeboat was out of gas and adrift, waiting them out until they became crazy from lack of fresh water or food was not a option. As in the past survivors have eaten and drank blood from deceased to survive.

10) Overwhelming firepower by the navy and availability of navy seals trained at underwater rescue.

11) The cloak of darkness for more than one night where it is the navy seals specialty.

No it is obvious where the delay came from. Though happy with the outcome for the captain there should be a full investigation into the handling of this matter.

Of course, you're right. Knowing those things means you can judge the situation just as well as if you had actually been there...

No one can say for sure why, what or who is the reason for the delay, BUT this is still AMERICA where you have a right to your opinion and EVERYONE here has a right to what they have said and what they think. Please dont take that away by trying to belittle someones statement

Actually yes it does as it was my job. In case you were unaware the TNT stands for Tactical Neutralization Team, I am sure the name has changed several times since, and I was around during the Iran Hostage Crisis. The way to know anymore a person would have to been the captain himself. If the big man cannot handle 4 small time thugs with one hostage what can we expect with really big trouble. These are not times to learn on the job.

Hostage crisis must be handled within a time frame otherwise it results in disaster all the way around even if it is lost respect for our abilities. While we stood idly by the civilian crew of the ship took action. While this is great they retook their vessel it was our job to do it. And the same thugs that civilian novices overpowered were the same captors holding the captain. If the Navy had acted swiftly and responsibly in the first place the captain would have never been hostage.

It looks as if this thread has run its course.

Thank you to all who have participated in a civil manner.
