4-week Black Ameraucanas

Here they are at 10 wks. Pretty sure Adam is a boy but up in the air about Pepperberg.

Any crowing? That would be good proof of having a cockerel.

I see that you have some other chickens too--are they the same age? Because if they are the same age, you can compare redness of combs. At 10 weeks, cockerels usually have combs much redder than pullet combs. (They all turned their heads away from the camera, so I cannot see their combs.)

I'm thinking Pepperburg is a pullet, because that comb looks quite pale to me. I think Adam might be a pullet as well, because that comb just isn't very red, only a little extra-pink at the top. Of course, my computer could be messing up the colors, because computers do that sometimes :)

I don't see any pointy saddle feathers, but that doesn't prove much-- your birds may still be too young to grow adult feathers, and I find it very difficult to see feather shape in photos of black chickens.

My other chicks other than the 2 ameraucanas are all ladies -- they are either autosexed, or have been selected as female at 5-6 weeks (I traded in my males for females.)

Are they the same age as the Ameraucanas? Comparing comb colors of known pullets vs. unknown Ameraucanas could help figure out those confusing Ameraucanas ;)
