Hello everyone,

I'm quite new to this so bare with me.
Me and my fam got 14 baby chicks at about 1 week old and are doing great except for one of my baby leghorns :( one day we noticed she was very weak and wasn't eating and was a lot smaller than the others so we immediately put her away separately from the others. We gave her food and she ate a lot! But we noticed something seemed wrong with her leg. The next day she was not eating on her own or walking at all and was doing the splits. So we fed her from a syringe and gave her some egg and electrolyte water and she seemed to have more energy but still was not walking. A couple days went by and once we got more energy in her we made a stent for her legs with the rubber band and straw in between. It did actually work but we still have it on her and it's been on her for about 4 days bc she still seems a little unstable but she is walking so that's good. It's been a little over a week and she is not eating on her own still. She constantly cries and is not growing even though we have been feeding her every day as much as we can. We give her the water and feed her egg and yogurt mixed with water. She just won't eat or drink on her own. I'm not sure what is wrong with her or what else I can do??
I would just hate to lose her, so much help would be greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to BYC. She could have a vitamin deficiency, or have splay legs or possibly a slipped tendon. Make sure that she is getting a poultry vitamin product in her water daily, containing B vitamins. I would also try to place her with the other chicks separated by a little screen if she gets stepped on. Get some vet wrap and cut small strips to use on her legs to treat the splay leg. It is easy to remove and replace if it gets put on wrong. Here are some links to help you:

Thanks so much for all that info! We put her along with the other chicks separated by the screen so hopefully that will help her. I noticed she does aspirate when I feed her so should I just stop feeding her all together until she eventually eats herself?

Try dipping her beak into the water to drink for a second, and let her swallow, then dip it again. Do this as often as possible until she is doing better.

Well I tried everything.. But she passed yesterday

I wish I knew what was wrong or if I could have done anything else.
