Hey everyone! We went ahead and bought 4 Chicks from tractor supply. They were labeled as “premium pullets” and the lady said that they were all guaranteed female egg layers. Well, some of them aren’t looking so feminine 😆. What does everyone else think since I’m not the best at sexing chicks yet.

I'm still new at this, but that last one doesn't look like a SLW? Different comb type? Following this thread, because I have a couple nearly 3 week old SLW that I am anxious to know about too!

Oh yes! Some hatcheries will randomly throw in a non pure chick in the mix. especially this year with all of the demand they have been selling not great quality chicks. Anyone can correct me if I’m wrong on that tho! 😊

No, it's common practice for hatcheries to add single comb to rose comb breedings as it's believed the rose comb causes lower fertility in males.

I got one today! This chick is super chill and has feathered legs. No idea on breed tho. That premium pullets sign at tsc I guess we have no idea what we're getting. Not bad for 99 cents tho!

4 weeks is too young to tell for sure. Wyandottes tend to pink up early, and aside from slightly redder combs and wattles I don't see any obvious signs of cockerels.

Single combs are recessive, so they can pass unseen for generations. Between that, and the supposed fertility issues of rose combs, it's not uncommon for hatchery wyandottes to have single combs.
