-40 with windchill What do I do?!

Vaseline applied to the comb and wattles of my leghorns seems to have prevented frostbite in these situations.

I have never tried it so I couldn't comment on it. It's good to hear from someone who has used it and with success.

My daisy was in quite a bit of these cold negative degree nights and never had any frostbite on her comb, photo below. I always used the vaseline. She hated it and would pout for days, lol.

That's quite the comb. I try to avoid large comb breeds here if I can. She looks like she's wearing a hat.

They should be fine. Wouldn't hurt to put wood shavings down deep enough that they can scooch down in it for extra warmth if they need to. Chickens do a lot better in extreme cold than they do in extreme heat, as long as they're dry & out of drafts.

BTW...Ixnay on the space heaters...asking for trouble

She's French. It's a jaunty beret, lol
