-40F temps with windchill here over the next few days

No. My avatar is a rapper. Her name is Iggy Azalea (her stage name). She wrote the hit Fancy Ft. Charli XCX? You know, "First things first I'm a realist," and, "I'm so fancy you already know. I'm in the fast lane from LA to Tokyo."
HMMMM I remember the Beatles and their roof top concert. That was 50 years ago. You know. I'll have to ask my grandson about the people you are talking about.

Your birds will be just fine. I'm up in Maine and its been -30 to -40 below zero with the wind for a couple weeks steady and I still let my pigeons out to fly and they do just fine, doesn't seem to faze them much at all. Pigeons are extremely resilient, just make sure you give them food before bed so their body has something to digest during the night. It will keep them much warmer. DO NOT HEAT THEM OR BRING THEM INSIDE. Their body will adjust to the warmth and when they are exposed to the cold again it can cause more problems then just letting them bare the cold. I just got some birds from Nevada which is way warmer then here obviously I got them during a warm spell (15-30 degrees) and it slowly got colder over a week and a half which gave them plenty of time to acclimate. if you do warm your birds you will need to acclimate over a few days. Hope this helps! -Dawson Daigle

Polar vortex here in Michigan. Night time lows around -10F, -40F with wind chill, and daytime high of -2F without windchill.

My loft is out of the wind, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should do with my birds. I could go nuclear and bring them in my garage one by one and keep them in a large dog cage for a few days, or just seal off all openings in my loft and hope they tough it out.

I assume there are some folks here in the midwest who are facing this same issue.
Just feed them a little more than usual and make sure they don't have any drafts and they will be fine. Pigeons do just fine in the cold... in my opinion they struggle more in the heat and humidity.
