42 ostriches......ny

There used to be an ostrich farm up behind my place. I used to ride my horse next to their pasture. At first the horse was afraid of the "giant chickens," but with patience she finally accepted them...........until the day that I rode by and one of the males decided she would be the ideal mate for him. A horse doesn't take well to an ostrich doing the mating dance jumping up and down and flapping his wings in front of her. It was an interesting ride that any rodeo cowboy would have been proud of.

I talked to a lady at the NC State Fair 6 years ago. At that time you could pickup a chick for 40.00 because there were so many people in them, that the market was saturated. Well everyone got out and now you can't pickup a chick for less then 150.00 around here. The adults are high too.

I had a male that would do his dance everytime I came near him in the spring.

Had him for 5 years from a chick, sad thing he was kill one night by a Saint Berdard that got in his pen. Other reason I hate stray or dogs running loose.

Question--what do people use Ostrich's for?

Just thinking that if this guy's been selling them for awhile and having such a hard time selling them, why would someone want to buy them? Just curious??? I've heard they're high jumpers and can kick worse than a mule!!

I think the price tag will keep this person from making many sales.
