48 hours since pip, to help or not to help...

3 others that have pipped, 1 that hasn't, but that one was a little behind his brothers when he went to lockdown. I have another I left in the turner. It's still alive, but not developing very well still has a LOT of space in the egg.

argh, so two of the other ones had zipped almost completely around and I could tell they were trying to push their caps and having trouble, so I helped. No problem at all they popped out and were happy as could be. They were restricted by the membrane and having trouble turning to finish their zip. Ah ha! A successful help, I felt wonderful, then I thought... maybe this other one that has barely zipped is having the same problem? What if he isn't able to turn. So I chipped away a little bit, no problem, chipped a little bit more and get a gush of blood..... grrr. Hope I haven't killed it. I'm definitely learning my lessons with this first hatch of when to help and when not to. Wrapped the bloody part of the membrane in a wet paper towel and put him back.

Woot!!! Four new slimy butts! Hope they fluff soon, they look awful! I watched that fourth one for a while and he looked like he was trying to push out so I decided to go ahead and unshell him, He was almost ready, I just happened to hit one of the last undried veins when I was cracking his shell. He did have a very small umbilical cord, but once he got the energy to get up and move around it broke off w/ no problem. That leaves me with one unpipped egg and one still in the turner, it is so strange it looks like maybe a day 16-18? but it has been incubated the entire time these others have and yet it's still alive. Totally confused on it.
