I think that most 4 H members do both showmanship and Cage/type showing. You will want to accustom him to being in a cage because that is how he will be housed during your show. Good luck, and remember it's all about having a good experience.

You will wamt him accustomed to the cage as that is where he will be a majority of the time. I would enter as much as you can! First years are for learning, in my first year I had no idea, after that I knew what to expect and get Grand Reserve in all the classes I enter, and am a 2× consecutive SR showman, hoping to make it 3 this year. Don't get to nervous just have fun, especially the first year.

All poultry shows vary--some judges have you take the bird out. It'd be great if you memorized his diet, breed origin and ideal qualities. I spent my teens showing poultry and watched videos like this to prep: Good luck!!
