some of my flock has coryza so I dont know if I want to hatch out their eggs. we will see

That is a responsible decision. Not hatching or bringing in more birds into Coryza is very good, sorry you have had problems. Have you located the source? Is it in your land or did you get a bird that was a carrier?

MStricer, I didn't see pics of your pups...did you post and they didn't appear? My Bella is a Great Pyrenees, she's got Badger markings that have been fading, only 4 months old, I can't wait to weigh her at the vet next week.

I was hoping I'd have some duck, some muscovy and some buff brahma eggs to go with my maran eggs, but all 3 'suppliers' have now said they can't provide me with any I guess I'm only going to have maran eggs for my NYD hatch. I don't know if I can get to my own eggs before the get too chilled so it's doubtful I will be able to provide any of my own. How do I store fertilized eggs, prior to the set date?

I think I'm done ordering eggs for this hatch-along. If I order any more I haven't a clue what I will do with them all. (Although, if I see some on the swap thread tomorrow that I can't live without I'll probably claim those as well

Store them in a cool dark place, pointy end down either in an egg carton or an auto egg turner. I like to turn them several types a day to keep the air cell from sticking to the inside of the egg.

I am not sure what I am setting yet. I will be collecting up all my eggs this week. I should have some to sell if anyone needs last minute eggs. I will post next week what I have. I am hoping that some of my hens get back laying. Weather man is promising warmer temps.

Hurray! It was sunny and warm today. So we cleaned out the garage and set up the troughs. Tomorrow I'll check all the lights, replace any dead ones, and get the brooders ready for chicks! Found out I need a few new waterers! Kids broke a few, but the feeders are clean and ready for fresh food.
Now I need to figure out how to cover the troughs (cracked 150 gal plastic horse troughs from the pasture. Don't hold water but work really well for brooders!). Any suggestions? The garage is not heated, and for the first few weeks I need to be able to keep the heat in, but still have air circulation.

could you put a tarp on one end and leave one side open for air? My husband built me a long wood brooder in our garage and I have a hot end that I put a heat light on top of mechanics mesh and place a tarp over that just leaving an opening for the light then i have a warm arear with a heat light with just a 40 watt bulb and then a cold end where I put the food and water that way the chicks can kinda decide where they wanna stay its worked well and has held a steady temp even with temps dipping into the teens at night
