4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

You know there is also Bones and Better food what do you have your pup on ?
If your boy gets good food , dog bones , safeway has some very nice Ox tails and so does freddies . You can use turkey Necks too ALL RAW.
the chewing will clean your dogs/puppies teeth.

a good diet can also help. too much sugar in a dogs food can cause just as much dekay as in humans

and if your animal is inbred same thing Teeth seem to be the first sign then legs and hips.

Enjoy
They get no human food unless it is chicken or beef mixed in the Purina one dog food. We give them all those bones on a constant basis, they always have bones to chew on, that we get from the butcher. It doesn't clean them as much as you think. People rely on them way to my much. We did. They even got greenies. So the only prevention is to clean your dogs teeth yourself at least once a week and as they get older as with our pup (he's 8) they need to get them cleaned to remove tarter, once a year.

My DH finished the diy incubator today, it just needs a few fine tunes to be ready.

Needs
1) Air holes , not sure how many???
2) Adjust the hot water heater thermostat Down some more (if poss.?) DH thought he put it down about as low as it would go & that would "cut off bulb at 100F" but it went to 104 b/f the bulb turned off -that is TOO HOT RIGHT? I need the bulb to turn off at what ? 101? 102?

Note- this is w/ 60 Watt bulb on max ( DH gave me a dimmer switch so I CAN fine tune) or change to 40 Watt bulb??

AH- it just clicked BACK ON at 100F

Should I just put air holes in and retest b/f messing w/ the water heater (which would be a major pain requiring uninstall)

3) I need to rig up a wire tray holder to hold the egg cartons w/ eggs on the pvc turner (DH made the handle on the outside tilts each way pvc frame like I asked :)
now I just gotta rig it for the eggs. I am planning to set them big end up in cardboard egg carton insert ( I cut a little hole in the bottom of each , right??) I understand something other than cardboard would be better but this is all I have so it will work, right??

This is my first (other than broody hen) egg hatching & I *really* want some healthy peepers on NYD...if any of you have advice from using a homemade cooler 'bator I'm all ears!

I use cardboard flats and I don't have holes in the bottom of mine. I put holes in the bottom at first, but it was a total pain, the cartons lost all durability and I couldn't pick them up to pull them out for candling, and had to do it one egg at a time. PAIN! I haven't had any issues with just leaving the flats intact.

We adopted a special needs dog when I was 16. Blind and deaf, and it was a younger dog, nonetheless. When we took him to the vet to get neutered, they told us that he must have been 12 years old, because his teeth were so rotten, he was blind and deaf. He was only 2-3 years old though, with VERY BAD breeding and a bad diet before we got him. He was a double merle dachshund, which any breeder knows that you don't breed a double merle, because it can create blindness, deafness, and deformities. Anyways, they had to pull 8 of his teeth due to rot. We finally put him down this year because he was losing B/B control and was making messes everywhere and wasn't moving anymore. So, breeding DOES come into play with teeth, as well as diet (like someone said, there are a ton of sugars in most commercial dog/cat foods) and maintenance.

I was just wondering what everyone uses to water there chickens? I have one of those you plug in to keep from freezing that thing is the biggest pain. I had to haul water twice today since i dumped the first one the red bottom will not stay on. I cleaned the coop and brooder today the feed store was out of stall dry and pine shaving to so the girls got straw they love it lol I sit there for an hour just watching them cluck and fuss and scratch.

Ive had my still air little giant up and running for well over two weeks all of a sudden Ive started getting temp spikes as high as 107. I have no clue what is going on nothing has changed the temp in the room never varies more then 5 degrees the room is dry humidity stays around 40 percent.I just use it for hatching so hopefully I can get it figured out soon

I understand that, my guy is a Pitbull/lab not a pure breed. Where most of the issues lie. Most mutts will not have the have (not saying it can't happen) those kinds of issues. They generally are not imbred they are just opps. My boy can be prone to cancer and has had a tumor from his lip removed. (pitbull thing) My Border Collie/lab mix is insane and a neurotic mess, and gets anxious if you knock on a window of make a sudden movement he freaks the blank out. Don't know where that comes from. The only pure dog we have is Zoe our Pyr. puppy. She's just barky A LOT, and wants other doggie friends, but the border mix is making it difficult, because he only tolerates the pit mix because he was there first. We started a new game...mean boy is behind a baby gate and puppy on the other side. With his favorite ball and lots of doggie cookies. When is was nice and not growling at her he got a treat and the ball, we stop the treats and went straight for the ball, so he would associate Zoe with the ball, which is a good thing for him. Got a long way to go. but this is a start since it's been over 4 months and we have been unsuccessful up until now.
